NEWS BULLETIN:
Due to the protest march, the Los Angeles Unified School District has planned an alternate route to drop off your children for today. Currently being broadcast on public broadcasting is the location of alternate stops or you can call 800-LA BUSSES to find out where your children are currently at.
EDITORIAL: Los Angeles Unified Schood District Buses Rerouted Due to May 1 Immigration Protest MarchAs is the case with many good intentions, this immigrant’s right’s march has unintentionally put the health and safety of many school children in the Los Angeles School District and other school districts in to question. The average parent is on his job earning a living for his family
The problems with informing people on public broadcasting, is unlike those that have chosen to take the day off to protest against our country’s laws many times with their families, the families of these children are not sitting at home watching television, they’re out earning a living to support their children and families.
It is one thing to inconvenience people by disrupting transportation or not shopping for a day, it is entirely another thing to put any child’s health and well-being at risk. Therefore there can be nothing but complete and absolute condemnation for those that planned and staged this protest. This was supposedly put together by intellectuals from college level, school teachers and various elected Latino politicians. It seems not a single one of them gave consideration to the health and welfare of children currently in school.
MONTEBUBBLISM: Two wrongs never make a right unless you’re a member of congress and then it really doesn’t matter in the first place.Editorial: You would think the safest place on earth for a dog would be at a dog show. Unfortunately this is not the case.
Monte goes to dog shows virtually every weekin and the amount of times that I have seen dogs on the loose at a dog show is probably as many times as I have seen dogs on the loose in my neighborhood. In the past two days I have seen three dogs on the losse. One dog almost got into it with very much bigger dog before she was caught. Today the second dog came after Monte with a half dozen males chasing her.
Monte did the smart thing and hid behind me, unfortunately I was in the way of the dog and got knocked on my rear and tore up my left ankle in the process.
Just a sorry from those chasing the dog whom I never did see get caught.
Later that day another dog got loose and in trying to get away jumped into a holding pen with another much smaller dog and started a battle with the dog.
This ended when a young lady grabbed the lease on the much larger dog and held the dog till its owner got there and separated the two dogs.
Just a small bit of damage to the fur or the skin of a show dog can destroy the career of the dog. In this case just a big afraid dog holding onto the much smaller dog with no damage to either.
I have seen dogs run off and never be found again. I have seen dogs on the loose run down people and seen it up close. I have seen loose dogs running the day for other dogs in the competition. (For your info Monte recovered well enough to still get her acustomed first place.)
Where the most attention should be paid to dogs as you can see is often the place where they are least constrained and the least attention paid to them once they have shown.
EDITORIAL: May 1 Mexicanization of the United States via Immigration Protest
Americans have historically hated being threatened by anyone. Does anyone remember the Boston Tea Party? How about Pearl Harbor? Right now we have people that come into this country illegally giving orders to everyone in this nation. They are demanding that they be given rights that they don’t have because they came into this country illegally. They have no right to protest. They don’t pay income taxes. They aren’t citizens. The guarantees from our constitution are for those that are American citizens and have come into this country legally.
They are demanding a general amnesty for everyone that comes into this country illegally. They are showing what they will do to this nation, unless everyone bends over and kisses their ass. Does anyone remember that the jobs they were filling were handled before they came here?
I’m almost 100% certain that the African-Americans that were handling the jobs before they came here aren’t in executive positions with companies. And that those teenagers which were working in the fast food restaurants are not currently employeed on Wall Street. The problem is that the African Americans and those teenagers wouldn’t work for as little as the illegal aliens are willing to work for. So the greedy employers simply replaced them.
Do you want to give all of the illegal aliens in this country amnesty? Do you want to do it because they have such massive economic clout? Meaning they have lots of disposable income. Do you know why they have lots of disposable income? Because they don’t pay income taxes, licensing of automobiles, car insurance, health insurance, and other taxes and insurances that are required. The only thing they pay for with their disposable income is sales tax on the merchandise they buy. You do understand that the first thing that happens when you give them amnesty and they become citizens or legal resident aliens is, they pay taxes, they pay for vehicle registration, and they pay for all sorts of insurance. Meaning they don’t have that disposable income anymore. They don’t have that economic clout greater than anyone else in this country.
If you give amnesty to these 11-13 million illegals, it means you’re going to have another 11-13 million illegals coming over here threatening and once again getting amnesty. This time you’re not going to have only 11-13 million from Mexico or other Latin countries, you’re going to have illegals flooding this country through Canada and Mexico borders from Asia, Africa, Arab countries and the ex-Soviet republics. You will find yourself as the only people speaking English, in a country which was an English speaking country before this. If the Latins can demand that everything they wish be granted, then why should the immigrants from the Soviets, Asian, Africa and Arab countries be required to speak English either. Today I saw on the news people refusing to speak more then a few simple words because they were Mexicans and spoke spanish and English is so hard to learn for them.
Because of the immigration problems from Mexico, you can actually go into businesses in this nation where not a word of English is spoken, nor is anyone around that can speak English. An example is when we went into a McDonald’s on Sunday, it was almost impossible to make an order because the person at the order desk couldn’t communicate in English. You can go into Rite-Aid drugstores and ask for assistance to find merchandise and they will respond to you, “no hablo ingles”. This is in the middle of an upscale shopping center in Los Angeles. You can only imagine what will happen if we have people that will only speak Spanish, Russian, Arab, or Asian languages. No one will communicate with others. You’re looking at the Tower of Babal, and everyone knows what happened with the Tower of Babal.
The whole premise of throwing 11-13 million people out of this nation because they’re here illegally is ridiculous. The people here illegally know they’re not going to be thrown out. Virtually all of the legislation put out by the U.S. Congress calls for a guest worker program and a pathway to citizenship, but this is not what the illegals want. They want amnesty. They don’t want to give up their ties to Mexico. They don’t want to be forced to learn English. They don’t want a pathway to citizenship which requires them to pay fees or back taxes. Why would they want citizenship if they can already enjoy the fruits of this nation?
If you listen and watch to what the people are saying that are protesting, they are not asking for citizenship. They are demanding immigrants’ rights. We have attended sales and marketing meetings dealing specifically with the Latin population in this nation. It has been repeatedly pointed out that while those immigrants that came here before from Latin countries have tried to Americanize themselves. They have strived to learn English. They like other immigrants to this nation have tried to become part of the melting pot that is the United States. The new flood of immigrants to this country predominantly speak Spanish, and don’t learn English except for the few basics in which to pick up their paycheck.
There is a $700 billion a year market now catering solely to these young immigrants in Spanish only, catering to the Spanish market that is expected to grow by 2025 to 3 trillion dollars a year, by any standards that’s ridiculous. It means that the entertainment business and most businesses in this nation have come to the unfortunate realization that the Latin market is never going to learn the English language as a primary language. Anyone in their right mind should be afraid of that. How can you live in a nation that becomes like the Tower of Babal? Because you can almost be certain that the majority of Americans here are not going to learn how to speak Spanish.
The Latins that are currently here have already shown their contempt for everybody else in this nation. You can rationally assume that this eventually lead to the United States of Mexico, in which huge portions of this nation will simply become nothing more than areas of Mexico. Nobody intends to punish the people that are here. This isn’t the way this nation has ever been. Basically, if you can make it across the ocean to our shores, our nation has absorbed you into it. Is it simply too much to ask of these people that have come across our borders to accept the laws and ways of all those that have preceded them into our country?
Finally, in reality, if there was 11-13 million armed Mexicans on the streets of this nation, you’d see a civil war break out. They think they can make everyone else in this nation dance, and if you don’t dance the same dance they want you to dance, you always end up in a fight.
This editorial is being transcribed from a 7th generation California whose family came here with the railroads and written by from one whose family came here from England, Ireland and Germany through Ellis Island and were all very proud of the fact the day they became American citizens.
My grandfather Wilhelm from Germany my grandmother Stella from Ireland, my grandfather Herbert and grandmother from England, were so proud that they were here that even though they were grandfathered in as American citizens because they came here before the dawn of the 20th century. When it became a requirement that you had to go to school and learn about our nation's history, take a test for citizenship and swear an oath to this nation, each of them proudly stepped forth to take the citizenship test when offered. They wanted to show people when they came into their homes, their certificate of citizenship of this nation.
That is taking pride in the nation that you’re part of, when you proudly display on your wall that you are a citizen of this nation.ENTERTAINMENT, ART, FASHION, TECHNOLOGY
ABC.com Launches Free Online Shows
Opening the morning newspaper, a full page color ad reminded me… “Missed Something?” The first network to offer your favorite shows online for free. If you miss a clue, a cry, a kiss or even a laugh, log on to abc.com the very next day and you’ll never miss a thing. Launching online today. Exclusively on abc.com” Pictures of Commander in Chief, Lost, Desperate Housewives and Alias streamed through the middle of the page.
Online shows are something we’ve all heard mention of, and for most we’re thinking downloading to the Apple iPod. With download speeds for iPods and cell phones seemingly taking forever, I have just made a note of companies that were making downloads available.
Disney-ABC Television Group announced their plans to offer free online downloads of Alias, Commander in Chief, Desperates Housewives and Lost nearly two months ago. It has been planned as a two month experiment to see how customers would respond. This morning I was relieved to see the ad as I had missed the first several minutes of Desperate Housewives last night. Not planning ahead and setting it to record on the DVR or TIVO, I thought I would have to wait and catch the episode in reruns. Like many, I planned to enjoy my Sunday evening in front of the tv and computer and watch Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy.
Going to www.abc.com, the entire process was much easier than expected. A click here, a click there and before I knew it, the familiar introduction to Desperate Housewives had started playing. In the upper right hand corner, opposite the abc logo on the left, was a non-obtrusive sponsored by Olay, followed by a sponsored by Tylenol on a repeat visit.
I was able to move forward and backwards in a timeline so I didn’t need to watch the entire episode but just the portions I wanted. When the 30 second spot came on from Olay, there was a timer in the right hand corner counting down the time. At this point, I couldn’t forward through the ad, but being only 30 seconds it wasn’t worth restarting and forwarding the show to that time period. Now it was time for the traditional break for commercial time, and if I took too long of a break, I could always rewind. The shows displayed did not fill my monitor screen, however with the streaming it was the same speed I typically view it on tv. The shows are free full length episodes available in streaming format on www.abc.com, the day after being broadcast on network tv and are currently planned for the months of May and June. The streaming format works best on high speed internet connections and according to their website’s frequently asked questions, is available only in the United States.
Checking the other other major networks, www.cbs.com, offered Survivor episodes at $0.99 each, www.fox.com offered 20th Century Fox Movies on Video on Demand, and www.nbc.com offered none I could find catching my attention in 30 seconds.
With each day, we’re approaching closer to the idea heard over and over at the industry trade shows such as OMMA and NAB, of consumers being able to access content from a multitude of devices.

Academy’s Sci-Tech Council Brings “Movie Magic” to the Screen
Beginning May 10, a screening series of four films, all notable for their technological innovations, will be presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Science and Technology Council. All of the films to be presented in “Movie Magic” were discussed in previous events staged by the Council.
Following is the series schedule:
May 10 at 7:30 p.m., Samuel Goldwyn Theater: “The Rains Came” (1939). Known for its spectacular monsoon and earthquake sequences, “The Rains Came” won the first Academy Award given in the Special Effects category; E. H. Hanson and Fred Sersen were honored for both sound and visual effects. The newly-restored print will be introduced by Academy Governor Craig Barron, who represents the Visual Effects branch.
May 24 at 7:30 p.m., Linwood Dunn Theater: “Applause” (1929). This early sound film, starring Helen Morgan, marked the directorial debut of Russian-born Rouben Mamoulian. In the new era of the “talkie,” it was the first film ever to be made in a two-channel monophonic mix and is credited as a giant step forward in motion picture sound technique. A restored print of the “The Gigolo Racket,” a Vitaphone short also starring Morgan, will be screened as well. Scott MacQueen, Director, ProTek Restoration Management, will introduce the films.
June 7 at 7:30 p.m., Samuel Goldwyn Theater: “Tron” (1982). Disney Studios filmmakers embraced the use of the computer as a creative tool as it had never been used before, creating a surreal backdrop for this ground-breaking feature and forever changing the landscape for computer-generated imagery. A 70mm print will be screened. The evening also will include a discussion with Richard Taylor and Steve Lisberger, the film’s visual effects supervisor and director, respectively. Oscar nominee Bill Kroyer (“Technological Threat”), who is a member of the Science and Technology Council, will introduce the film and moderate the discussion.
June 21 at 7:30 p.m., Samuel Goldwyn Theater: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (1935). Presented in conjunction with the Academy’s Tribute to Olivia de Havilland (June 15) and the retrospective of her films at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, this visually stunning film earned the Academy Award for Cinematography for Hal Mohr. Cinematographer Ralph B. Woolsey will introduce the film.
Tickets for each screening are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with valid ID. They may be purchased in advance by mail, in person at the Academy’s headquarters in Beverly Hills during regular business hours, or on the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Academy’s headquarters and Samuel Goldwyn Theater are located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. The Linwood Dunn Theater, where only the May 24 screening will take place, is located at 1313 Vine Street in Hollywood. For more information, call 310-247-3600.

NEWS from China and news in Spanish
A one-day nationwide strike and business boycott got underway on Monday to demand legal rights for millions of illegal immigrants, with many U.S. businesses shutting down voluntarily to avoid disruption. Early reports suggested many of the estimated 11.5-12 million illegal immigrants in the country were obeying a call to stay away from work and boycott businesses, despite a mixed message from immigrant-rights organizations, some of which opposed the action.
