Cobertura exclusiva en vivo y en español del evento deportivo más popular del mundo
The three Univision networks will join together for an entire month to offer live and exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the FIFA World Cup Germany 2006(TM) tournament, the world’s most popular and highly anticipated international soccer championship, which will take place this year from venues throughout host country Germany. The action begins on June 9th at 11:00 am ET/8:00 am PT (10:00 am Central/ 9:00 am. Mountain), when Univision airs the kick-off match between Germany and Costa Rica. A total of 64 games will be televised live between June 9 and July 9, 56 on the Univision Network, including the final championship match, and 8 on the TeleFutura Network.
In addition to its live coverage, Univision Sports will rebroadcast every match in prime time on either TeleFutura or Galavisión…over 300 hours of World Cup coverage not counting virtually round-the-clock highlights and behind-the-scenes stories on the networks’ sports, news, variety and talk shows.
Univision and TeleFutura will broadcast all their live matches across every time zone in the country. Each match will have a minimum 30-minute pre-kick-off segment. The opening match, both semi finals and the final match will have a one-hour pre-game show. The Network’s comprehensive coverage will allow soccer enthusiasts to fully experience the World Cup and see the pomp and ceremony live, beginning with the players emerging from the tunnel to the field. Every match will be rebroadcast the same day on either TeleFutura (7:30 p.m. ET/PT) or Galavisión (5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. ET/PT). Additionally, Univision’s morning program “Despierta América” will precede almost every game with a special “World Cup Edition” featuring reports and exclusive coverage leading up to the match. In the afternoon, the network’s popular entertainment news program “El Gordo y La Flaca” will have special “World Cup Editions” in between most of the day’s two matches and “Primer Impacto”, the #1 newsmagazine show in the nation among Hispanic viewers, will have a special “World Cup Edition” immediately following the matches. Nightly re-caps will also be featured on the network’s news programs at 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. On the weekends, “República Deportiva - World Cup Edition” will feature the week’s highlights and exclusive reports from Germany. “Contacto Deportivo de Ford”, the nightly 11:00 p.m. ET/PT sports newscast on TeleFutura, will expand its broadcast to one hour during the World Cup to accommodate additional highlights, interviews, features and analysis.
Univision first televised the FIFA World Cup in 1978, and the Network has televised every World Cup tournament since then. In 2002, Univision’s high-profile broadcast of the FIFA World Cup attracted a record 35 million viewers. In November, Univision announced that it had reached an agreement with FIFA to televise both the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
