A group of companies calling itself the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative is developing technology for standardizing 3D glasses that uses the same wireless frequency as the Bluetooth standard. The glasses, which will be manufactured by X6D with support from Panasonic, Samsung and Sony, will be geared for home and theater use. Licensing of the technology is expected in September, with the first models due in 2012

The six biggest pay-TV providers that are publicly traded companies suffered a combined loss of about 580,000 subscribers in the second quarter, the biggest such dip ever. "Rising prices for pay TV, coupled with growing availability of lower-cost alternatives, add to a toxic mix at a time when disposable income isn't growing," said Craig Moffett, an analyst at Sanford C.
