LAS VEGAS, Dec. 8 -- Winners were announced tonight for Spike TV's 5th annual "Video Game Awards," the preeminent celebration of achievement in the gaming world. Talent from across the entertainment world gathered at the Mandalay Bay Events Resort and Casino in Las Vegas to honor the year's accomplishments within the video game community. Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the 2007 "Video Game Awards" will premiere on Spike TV Sunday, December 9 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

The night's most prestigious honors were bestowed upon 2K Games' BioShock, as it took home awards for Game of the Year, Best Xbox 360 Game and Best Original Score. Two of the industry's most anticipated releases, Microsoft Game Studios' Halo 3 and MTV Games' Rock Band, garnered two awards each. A full list of winners can be found below.

Viewers were treated to mind blowing, never-before-seen world premieres of gaming's most anticipated releases. Borderlands (2K), Gran Turismo(TM) 5 Prologue (Sony Computer Entertainment America), Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Ubisoft) and TNA iMPACT! (Midway) were all unveiled for the world to see.

The 2007 "Video Game Awards" featured memorable musical and comedic performances. Four time Grammy award winners and fresh off receiving five more Grammy nods earlier this week, Foo Fighters rocked the stage, and Kid Rock delivered a stirring three song medley, while comics Patton Oswalt, Ralphie May and Brian Posehn provided nonstop laughs for those in attendance during their performances. The world's leading video game concert series, Video Games Live, made its national television debut. The night also featured award presentations and appearances by Criss Angel, "TNA" wrestling stars Kurt and Karen Angle, actress Tia Carrere, "Chuck" stars Joshua Gomez and Zachary Levi, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, former NFL star Rocket Ismail, UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, "The Ultimate Fighter 1" winner Forrest Griffin, legendary boxing promoter Don King, MTV reality couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, NFL quarterback and Heisman trophy winner Matt Leinart, rock star Dave Navarro, comedian Patton Oswalt, comedian and Comedy Central star Brian Posehn, and MTV's Tila Tequila.

The show pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of games, designers, animation, breakthrough technology, music and performances of the past year in the world of video games. The awards also provide a forecast of the future of gaming -- including exclusive sneak peeks and world premiere footage of some of the hottest and most anticipated games of 2008 and beyond.
