Appeals court upholds law protecting telecoms
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a 2008 law that grants telecoms immunity from lawsuits based on complaints arising from their role in aiding government surveillance efforts. Judge M. Margaret McKeown cited a Senate intelligence panel, which said that without immunity, "the private sector might be unwilling to cooperate with lawful government requests in the future."
