Kiss creates Comicbook Company
Rock group rolls on shingle by Phil Gallo

After 34 years of a comicbook presence in rock 'n' roll, Kiss has created a comicbook entertainment company.

Platinum Studios and Kiss Catalog, the company run by Kiss leaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, have partnered to create the Kiss Comics Group, which will kick off with a book, "Kiss 4K," and eventually venture out into platforms such as mobile, online, film, television and licensed merchandise products.

"Kiss 4K," the story of the transformation of Simmons, Stanley and other Kiss band members from rock stars to world-protecting warrior spirits, will debut as the world's largest comicbook, priced at $50. It will be the first comicbook-based property to simultaneously launch all of its merchandise in the U.S., France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Eventually, a new Kiss comic involving characters King of All Beasts, Demon, Starchild and Celestial will appear weekly online at Kisscomicsgroup.com. "Kiss 4K" will be unveiled at the Wizard World convention in Los Angeles in March.

The second title is expected to be "Kiss Girls," which features four teenagers who "talk about shopping and are about as dysfunctional as anyone until something happens to them and they get to wear the Kiss makeup and look good doing it," Simmons said.

Simmons and Platinum Studios founder and chairman Scott Rosenberg started discussions about creating the joint venture at the 2005 Comic-Con.

"Kiss Comics Group and Platinum Studios -- they are the same as we are," Simmons told Daily Variety. "This is a company not burdened with corporate considerations. It's all about the one-on-one."

Signatures Network and Dell Furano will be handling worldwide licensing for Kiss Comics Group. Characters from Platinum Studios' library of more than 3,800 will appear in the Kiss books.

Kiss has had a comic presence for nearly 30 years. Band started with Marvel in 1978 and in the '90s issued comics with Stan Lee, Todd McFarlane and Dark Horse.

Platinum Studios has more than a dozen of its projects in various stages of production at several film studios, among them "Cowboys & Aliens," "The Darkness" and "Unique."

WIZARD ENTERTAINMENT CELEBRATES ST. PATRICK'S DAY BY NAMING OUR TOP HEROES FROM THE EMERALD ISLE

(LA, CA March 16,2007) With the Wizard World LA convention falling on the weekend of St. Patrick's Day Wizard Entertainment is taking the opportunity to pay tribute to some of the finest comic heroes with Irish ancestry. The list is made up of two men and three women, which includes a father daughter team. In salute to these brave, selfless individuals we offer an old Irish toast: May the enemies of Ireland never eat bread nor drink whiskey, but be afflicted with itching without the benefit of scratching.

I) DAREDEVIL

Irish-American Matthew Murdock was raised by a single father in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. In the course of saving a blind man from the path of an oncoming truck, Matt is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from the vehicle. Though the act of heroism robs him of sight, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human thresholds, enabling him to detect the shape and location of objects around him.

2) SCARLETT

Scarlett (Shana M. O'Hara) was born in Atlanta, Georgia where her father and three older brothers were martial arts instructors. After joining the Army, Scarlett received a varied education, attending Covert Ops School, Marine Sniper School, Special Air Service School and the Marine Tae Kwon Do symposium. She is proficient in various weaponry, including the XK-I power crossbow and many martial arts weapons such as throwing stars, garrote and ka-bar.

Her rank is Master Sergeant, andshe serves from time to time as team leader. Her primary specialty for the team is counter intelligence, and her secondary military specialty remains classified on all of her file cards. She also graduated Summa Cum Laude from a prestigious University, and passed her Bar Exams to practice law before moving into the military.

3) SHAMROCK

Molly Fitzgerald is a mutant super heroine who goes by the name Shamrock. Her father was a fanatically militant Irish nationalist. When she was three years old, her father called out to the heavens to grant her brother Paddy the power to strike down his enemies, but there appeared to be no effect. Not until Molly's freshman year in college did she discover that she had obtained mutant powers, a protective aura that altered probability around her and she became the costumed hero Shamrock.

4) SIRYN

Theresa Rourke Cassidy, like her father, the X-Men's Banshee, is an Irish mutant, who possesses a "sonic scream" capable of incapacitating and injuring an opponent's hearing and sending powerful vibrations through the air. She can use these vibrations to fly. Her name derives from the sirens of Greek mythology.

5) BANSHEE

Sean Cassidy, an Irish mutant, code-named Banshee after a spirit from Irish mythology, possesses a "sonic scream," capable of harming enemies' auditory systems and causing physical vibrations. Cassidy is the heir to both a small fortune and a castle in Cassidy Keep, Ireland. A former Interpol agent and NYPD officer, he left the organization after the tragic death of his wife at the hands of an IRA bomb. He eventually joined the XMen where he became a respected teacher and mentor.
