LA Stars' Legacy Project
Saturday, August 4th and Sunday, August 5th

The addition of a Legacy Project to the 2007 event, places the ultimate purpose of the LA Stars Celebrity Weekend in the forefront of weekend activities. All legacy activities are geared toward strengthening communities by supporting community-based youth programs and increasing health-related resources.

The Legacy Project offers sponsors, community members and other athletes and entertainers the opportunity to come together in service to transform a community gathering space and share healthy living information in a fun and festive, carnival-like atmosphere.

The Legacy Project has two large scale components: An LA Stars’ Day of Service with a signature community service project; and a Health Fest and Carnival focused on health, wellness and interactive activity for youth and families.

Both legacy components are designed to demonstrate the positive and powerful impact that can be made through athlete-led community change, combined with the active involvement of corporations and individuals.

Baron Davis and Paul Pierce's Annual LA Stars Celebrity All-Star Charity Weekend

Charity Weekend Highlight - 'The Legacy Project'

WHAT: Los Angeles natives and NBA superstars Baron Davis and Paul

Pierce's LA Stars Celebrity All-Star Charity Weekend (August

3-5, 2007), the celebrity-infused sports and fashion weekend,

benefiting LA Stars, a charitable event group comprised of Team

Play/The Baron Davis Foundation and Paul Pierce's Truth

Foundation.

The weekend kicked off with a private reception hosted by FENDI

in the Forbes Life Penthouse at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel,

where a hand-picked selection of luxury items were available for

purchase. Celebrities and guests were treated to cocktails,

cigars, appetizers and entertainment including a poker clinic by

World Poker Tour champion Phil Gordon. Ten percent of the

evening's proceeds were donated to LA Stars Charity.

On Saturday, August 4th, LA Stars initiated "The Legacy Project"

at Richardson Park, a renovation project with support from

Planktos and Home Depot, in which celebrities and sponsors had

the opportunity to work together to launch a new community

program for deserving youth. Neighborhood clean-up and tree

planting among other activities resulted in a positive influence

on the city of Los Angeles. Mayor Villaraigosa, Council Member

Bernard Parks, and Sophia Piña Cortez participated in the ribbon

cutting with Golden State Warriors Baron Davis, Boston Celtics'

Paul Pierce, the Knicks' Wilson Chandler, UCLA-bred/Detroit

Pistons' Arron Afflalo, UCLA-bred/Boston Celtics' Gabe Pruitt

and Gilbert Arenas Sr.

After "The Legacy Project," professional athletes and

celebrities joined together for the LA Stars "Rodeo Drive

Experience," presented by Balance Vector and Truth Productions,

which included a casino-style evening of games and a special

musical performance by Angie Stone and Stevie Wonder, all under

the stars on the famed Rodeo Drive. The evening's charity

auction highlight featured Baron Davis and Paul Pierce's

generous bids of $50,000 each for the purchase of America's

first-ever personal life-size wax figure created by Madame

Tussauds Wax Museum. Davis and Pierce graciously donated this

exclusive gift as a tribute to NBA legend Magic Johnson, who

inspired the LA Stars program, and who will now be the first

person in the U.S. to have a personally commissioned wax figure,

a symbol of his success and a lasting legacy for generations to

come.

On Sunday, August 5th, Baron Davis and Paul Pierce's LA Stars

inaugural "Carnival for the Community" with support from Zero

Two Hero featured Driving America Healthy and Hood Games, an

urban extreme sport competition. Professional athletes and

celebrities participated in 'carnival-style' elements from the

Golden State Warriors and interactive exhibitions including the

Adidas Mobile Truck, karate by McDuffy's Kajukenbo and food

demonstrations to showcase unique and innovative ways to lead a

healthy lifestyle. Nickelodeon's Star Camp host Nick Cannon and

the Giggle Club performed on the main stage in addition to other

live entertainment throughout the day.

Also on Sunday, the highly anticipated, 2nd Annual LA Stars

Celebrity and NBA All-Star Basketball Games presented by Xenergy

and Oracle challenged Hollywood celebrities and the NBA's elite

to compete on the court at USC's new Galen Center for two

high-energy games. In the NBA Entertainment League Game, Paul

Pierce's celebrity team beat out Baron Davis' celebrity team

winning 85-75. In the LA Stars NBA All-Star Game, the LA Stars

team took the spoils over the NBA Stars team, winning 140-130.

(Team rosters available upon request). A custom-made crystal

trophy from Tiffany & Co. was given to LA Stars, the winning NBA

team.

The Luxe Jet Player's Lounge, in the Forbes Life Penthouse of

the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, was available to the NBA players for

the duration of the LA Stars Weekend. Elevee displayed their

latest designs inside the Lounge, and deluxe audio/video movie

rooms with NBA 2K big screens for video gaming were provided by

the Wasserman Group. Complementary roof deck massages were also

provided by The Lounge Spa. In addition, Baron Davis' clothing

line, The Black Boy Collection, was on special display on the

Player's Lounge rooftop. Also featured in the lounge was Lamar

Odom's clothing line, Son of Man.

Ford Crossovers Continue to Shine in July; Overall Sales Decline

-- Ford Motor Company's all-new and redesigned crossovers were up 40 percent in July; year-to-date sales also up 40 percent.

-- Overall sales totaled 195,245, down 19 percent compared with a year ago; daily rental sales were down 57 percent and sales to individual retail customers were down 17 percent.

-- Lincoln registers tenth month in a row of higher retail sales.

-- All-new Ford Expedition gains for the eleventh month in a row; Lincoln Navigator was up 8 percent.

-- Land Rover sales rose 19 percent, reflecting all-new LR2.

Demand continues to grow for Ford Motor Company's (NYSE:F) all-new and redesigned crossover vehicles, but overall sales declined sharply in July.

Total July sales were 195,245, down 19 percent compared with a year ago. Sales to daily rental companies were down 57 percent and sales to individual retail customers were down 17 percent. The company's crossover utility vehicle sales were up 40 percent in July and year-to-date -- the largest increase of any major manufacturer.

"We are encouraged by the progress we have made and consumers' response to our new products," said Mark Fields, Ford's President of the Americas. "At the same time, we know we have a lot of work to do, and July is a sobering reminder of the economic and competitive challenges we face."

In July, Ford Edge sales were 9,096 and Lincoln MKX sales were 2,870. Edge recently was recognized as the industry's top performing new vehicle in J.D. Power and Associates' 2007 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study (APEAL).

Sales for the redesigned 2008 model Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner crossovers were higher in July. Escape sales were 12,440, and Mariner sales were 2,534, both up 2 percent compared with a year ago.

Sales for the new Ford Expedition (up 22 percent) and Lincoln Navigator (up 8 percent) also were higher than a year ago. Expedition sales were up for the eleventh consecutive month.

The Lincoln brand posted its tenth month in a row of higher retail sales (although total sales were lower reflecting lower fleet sales). In the first six months of 2007, Lincoln sales were 15 percent higher than the same period a year ago -- the largest increase of any luxury brand. Lincoln's rebound reflects the new Lincoln MKX crossover, the new Lincoln MKZ sedan and the redesigned Navigator.

Land Rover dealers reported a 19 percent sales increase in July, reflecting the addition of the all-new LR2 crossover.

-- Flavor Flav's song lyrics to "You're Gonna Get Yours" say it best ... "Subject of suckers -- object of hate, who's the one some think is great? I'm that one -- son of a gun!" This holds true at "The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Flavor Flav," where rap-master Flav takes a "rapping" to a whole new level. The show taped at The Warner Brother Studio Lot on Sunday, July 22 in Los Angeles. "The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Flavor Flav" premieres on Sunday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Comedian Katt Williams heads the festivities as the evening's Roast Master. This year's Roasters include Carrot Top, Greg Giraldo, Ice-T, Jeffrey Ross, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Lampanelli, Brigitte Nielsen, Patton Oswalt, Snoop Dogg, Sommore, among others. Throughout the evening, DJ Spinderella was spinning the joints as each Roaster threw some zingers at Flav. Highlights include: Katt Wiliam's introduction, "A look back at the life and times of Flav, none of which he can remember," Lisa Lampanelli's crack, "Flav, enough with the clock, you can take it off, you haven't had to be anywhere in 13 years" and a special rhyme from rapper Snoop Dogg. Tune in Sunday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. for many more funny one-liners and a true tribute to the rapper, Flavor Flav.

comedycentral.com gave all "Flavorhaters" the chance to showcase their roasting talent. Users were invited to deliver the ultimate Flavor Flav insult, snap or slam via video camera, webcam or mobile phone. Videos of users "roasting" Flav were uploaded at AtomUploads.com and featured on comedycentral.com. A lucky bunch of videos were selected to air during the August 12 premiere of "The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Flavor Flav."

For those needing extra "Flavor," comedycentral.com is devoting the Web site's entire homepage to the Roast from Friday night, August 10 through Monday, August 13. Everything Flavor will be featured including for the first-time ever the "FlavCam" -- Flavor Flav's purple carpet video camera attached to his clock giving viewers an intimate look at what it's like to be a celebrity walking the walk. In addition, the site will have exclusive uncensored Roast clips, behind-the-scenes videos from the event as well as the Roast After-Party, the Roast "Cold Clock'd" game, photos and more.

On August 13, the uncensored "The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of COMEDY CENTRAL" will be available for download at $4.99 from both iTunes and xBox Live Marketplace.

Flavor Flav, born William J. Drayton, is credited as rap music's original "Hype Man." Flav is celebrating his 20th year in the rap business and is currently on tour with Public Enemy front man and partner Chuck D. Flav has starred in VH1's "Surreal Life," "Strange Love" and the record-setting "Flavor of Love" series.

"The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Flavor Flav" is executive produced by Joel Gallen from Tenth Planet Productions, who also executive produced and directed the Emmy-nominated "The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of William Shatner" as well as "The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Pamela Anderson." Elizabeth Porter serves as the executive in charge for the network.

"The COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Flavor Flav" is sponsored by Taco Bell.

Research Studies on Media Ownership - 7/31/07

The research studies on media ownership listed below are intended to inform the Commission’s comprehensive review of its broadcast ownership policies. The Commission intends to use the evidence collected in these studies, as well as the comments, to guide and support its decisions in the ownership proceeding.

Study 1: How People Get News and Information

This study surveys consumers about their use of media. It identifies consumers’ primary, secondary, and tertiary sources of news and information and the frequency with which consumers access these sources.

    Author: Nielsen Media Research, Inc.

Study 2: Ownership Structure and Robustness of Media

This study describes the ownership structure and robustness of current media, including broadcast television, cable television, satellite television, broadcast radio, satellite radio, newspapers, and the Internet. The information gathered concerning the current media marketplace is compared to the state of the media marketplace when the Commission last reviewed its ownership rules in the years 2002-2003.

Authors: Kiran Duwadi, Scott Roberts, and Andrew Wise, FCC; C. Anthony Bush, FCC (Technical Appendix)

Study 3: Television Station Ownership Structure and the Quantity and Quality of TV Programming

This study analyzes the effect of ownership structure and robustness (as described in Study 2) on various measures of the quantity and the quality of different types of TV programming, including local news and public affairs, minority programming, children’s programming, family programming, religious programming, and violent and indecent content.

Author: Gregory S. Crawford, Department of Economics, University of Arizona

    Study 4: News Operations

This study, which is divided into four sections, collects data on the size and scope of the news operations of radio and television stations and newspapers. It also analyzes the relationship between the nature of the news operations and market characteristics, including ownership structure and robustness.

Authors: Daniel Shiman, FCC (Section I); Kenneth Lynch, FCC (Section II); Craig Stroup, FCC (Section III); Pedro Almoguera, FCC (Section IV)

Study 5: Station Ownership and Programming in Radio

This study uses station-level data to examine how ownership structure affects the programming and audience of radio stations.

Author: Tasneem Chipty, CRA International, Inc.

Study 6: The Effects of Cross-Ownership on the Local Content and Political Slant of Local Television News

This study examines the effect of newspaper cross-ownership on television news coverage using matched pairs of cross-owned and non-cross-owned television stations.

Author: Jeffrey Milyo, Center for Applied Economics, University of Kansas, School of Business; Department of Economics and Truman School of Public Affairs, University of Missouri

Study 7: Minority and Female Ownership in Media Enterprises

This study examines levels of minority ownership of media companies and barriers to entry.

Authors: Arie Beresteanu and Paul B. Ellickson, Duke University

Study 8: The Impact of the FCC’s TV Duopoly Rule Relaxation on Minority and Women Owned Broadcast Stations 1999-2006
