Swarovski and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Unveil a First Glimpse of the Oscar(R) Set Design

Thirty-four-foot Swarovski Crystal Curtain designed exclusively for the 79th Annual Academy Awards(R)

While the full design concept of the Oscar set will remain a secret until the live telecast on Sunday, February 25th, the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences and Swarovski unveiled today a first glimpse of the stage set for the 79th Annual Academy Awards - a sparkling Swarovski Crystal Curtain - an illuminating tapestry of cascading crystal and light.

Each year the Academy's brilliant set production team creates a new masterpiece for the Oscar stage and this year, the piece de resistance will be a one-ton, 34-foot custom designed Swarovski crystal curtain sparkling with over 50,000 crystals flown in especially from Austria - valued at one million dollars.

The Academy joined forces with Swarovski, the most coveted crystal in fashion and design, to create a dazzling piece of art to adorn the stage for Hollywood's biggest night.

J. Michael Riva, 79th Awards production designer, explains, "The idea was to return to a simpler Hollywood glamour look for the Oscars this year - something that would sparkle on camera along with the gold of the Oscars. I was inspired by moving bursts of light on my office walls - it was sun reflecting off a facetted Swarovski crystal paperweight on my windowsill. Suddenly, I was on the phone looking for crystals, enough of them to make a curtain we could feature on stage. I turned to Swarovski, with their dazzling crystal and technical expertise, and they came to the rescue to make this dramatic and challenging design concept come to life. The sparkle of the Swarovski crystal curtain helped create our vision of glamour and return to old Hollywood elegance. I will be joyfully reminded of Swarovski every time the sun happens to shine through my window!"

Nadja Swarovski adds, "Swarovski is honored to partner with the Academy on such a prestigious and glamorous occasion. Swarovski crystal has adorned stars from the red carpet to the silver screen, and now, for the first time, we are delighted that Swarovski can shine center stage at the 79th Annual Academy Awards."

View exclusive behind the scenes footage of the creation of the Swarovski Crystal Curtain for the 79th Annual Academy Awards on www.swarovskisparkles.com.

Over a hundred years ago, in 1895, Daniel Swarovski I, a Bohemian inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens, Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for cutting and polishing crystal jewelry stones. From these beginnings, which revolutionized the fashion world, Swarovski has grown to be the world's leading producer of precision-cut crystal, for fashion, jewelry and more recently lighting, architecture and interiors. Today, the company, still based in Wattens, family-owned and run by 4th and 5th generation family members, has a global reach, with some 20,000 employees, a presence in over 120 countries and a turnover in 2006 of 2.33 billion Euros. Comprising two major divisions, one producing and selling loose crystals, the other creating design-driven finished products, the Swarovski corporation also includes four industrial brands, Tyrolit(R), manufacturing grinding tools, Swareflex, for road safety reflectors, Optik, producing precision optical instruments and Signity, Swarovski's brand for genuine and created gemstones. While Swarovski crystal, known by its product brand name CRYSTALLIZED(TM)- Swarovski elements, has become an essential ingredient of international design, Swarovski's own-brand accessory, jewelry and home decor lines are sold through more than 600 Swarovski stores and concessions in all major fashion capitals, and the exclusive Daniel Swarovski accessories collection has become the company's Couture signature. The Swarovski Crystal Society has close to 400,000 members worldwide, keen collectors of the celebrated crystal figurines, and in Wattens, Crystal Worlds, the multi-media crystal museum, has attracted over 7 million visitors since it was opened in 1995, as a celebration of Swarovski's universe of innovation and inspiration, of crystal as the ultimate creative material.

How to Throw an Oscar(R) Party Fandango-Style

Leading Movie Site Offers Awards Party Themes, Ticket Giveaways and Moviegoer Polls; Majority of Fandango Audience Believes The Departed Will Win Best Picture

With the Oscars(R) just around the corner (Sunday, February 25), it's time for hosts to start planning their viewing parties. While the sobering nominees Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima and Blood Diamond offer limited fodder for party inspiration, several other contenders are ripe with themes for celebration.

In a column on Fandango, the nation's largest online, phone and mobile movie ticketing destination, Oscar(R) expert Kim Morgan recommends the following themes for the perfect Awards party:

  * The Departed Party -- invite friends to don dark glasses, trench coats or bathrobes, a la Jack Nicholson, pour scotch whiskey and serve seafood as a salute to the film's Boston setting. * The Dreamgirls Party -- encourage guests to dress up in blue taffeta, false eyelashes and bouffants and dance to classic Motown. * The Little Miss Sunshine Party -- serve take-out fried chicken and the food that tempted ten-year-old Oscar(R) nominee Abigail Breslin: waffles with ice cream ("a la mode-y"). * The Queen Party -- serve crumpets, finger sandwiches and plenty of hot tea (not to be interrupted by anyone, even if it's Tony Blair calling).

The Oscar(R) party tip-sheet is just part of the extensive news and information that can be found in Fandango's Red Carpet Coverage of the 79th Annual Academy Awards(R) at www.fandango.com/oscars.

Film fans can also enter a giveaway to win free movie tickets or vote in the "Pick the Winners" poll, which has already attracted thousands of moviegoers. The Fandango moviegoer poll results (as of February 14, 2007 6:00 pm PST) for who will take home this year's Oscars(R):

  * For Best Picture: The Departed (35%) * For Best Director: Martin Scorsese, The Departed (51%) * For Best Actor: Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland (46%) * For Best Actress: Helen Mirren, The Queen (53%) * For Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls (47%) * For Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls (60%)

For the full list of "Pick the Winners" results, visit http://oscars.fandango.com/featurepollresult.php.

For Fourth Consecutive Year Sterling Vineyards Will Pour Featured Wines at 79th Annual Academy Awards® Governors Ball

Custom Created Wines Toast Talent in “Sterling” Fashion

(Napa, CA) - Sterling Vineyards, the landmark Napa winery, makes its fourth consecutive guest-starring appearance as the featured wine of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Ball, the official party of the 79th Annual Academy Awards, to be held Sunday, February 25, 2007, immediately following the Oscar® Telecast. Sterling Vineyards will also be poured at the Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner on Saturday, February 10. The pre-show receptions will also feature wine selections from Sterling Vineyards.

“The winemaking team and I are thrilled to have our wines selected for the fourth year in a row,” said Vice President of Winemaking for Sterling Vineyards, Mike Westrick. “Winemaker Chris Millard and I have crafted new vintages of the custom Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay and Red Carpet Reserve Cabernet created just for the Oscar celebration. This year, we consulted with master chef Wolfgang Puck in advance, to ensure that the food and wine pairing is ‘picture perfect’ for the most prestigious awards event of the year.”

Westrick and Sterling Vineyards have created the 2005 Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay, the second vintage of a very limited edition white wine, to complement the extraordinary culinary creations of master chef Wolfgang Puck, who will orchestrate the multi-course gala dinner for the Academy's 1,650 guests. A crisp and richly aromatic Chardonnay, Gold Standard Reserve offers notes of apple, citrus, cinnamon, and nutmeg, with hints of vanilla in a lingering finish.

Red Carpet Reserve is a limited edition Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon blend that Sterling Vineyards created two years ago for the Oscars®. The third vintage, the 2003 Red Carpet Reserve, will be featured at this year's Governors Ball. “The 2003 Red Carpet Reserve is elegant and complex, a great wine from an outstanding vintage year,” said Westrick.

Only 383 cases of Gold Standard Reserve and 500 cases of Red Carpet Reserve were produced to celebrate this special occasion. Each bottle is individually numbered to confirm it’s unique status and bears the winemakers’ signatures.

Founded in 1964, Sterling Vineyards crowns a 400-foot knoll, one mile south of the historic Napa town of Calistoga. The winery is accessible by aerial tram and offers stunning views of the surrounding wine country. Sterling enjoys a long-time affinity for the cinematic arts and is a sponsor of the National Film Preservation Foundation as well as various film festivals throughout the country. Each summer, Sterling Vineyards hosts a series of outdoor movie screenings at its Napa winery, all proceeds benefit a charitable fund with the community foundation of the Napa Valley. For more information on Sterling Vineyards, visit www.sterlingvineyards.com.

“We are extremely proud of the wines we create each year for the Oscar celebration” said Vice President of Winemaking for Sterling Vineyards, Mike Westrick. “To be able to create something exclusive for this special night and to also benefit charities across the country through Oscar Night America events is even more fulfilling. For the first time, Winemaker Chris Millard and I commissioned three-liter bottles of our Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay exclusively for auction at Oscar Night America events. When Ellen DeGeneres agreed to sign our bottles, we knew we had an auction lot that wine and movie lovers around the country would be thrilled to support."

Westrick and his team at Sterling Vineyards created the 2005 Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay, the second vintage of a very limited edition white wine, to complement the culinary creations of master chef Wolfgang Puck, who will orchestrate the multi-course gala dinner for the Academy's 1,500 guests at the Governors Ball. Since its inception in 1994, the program has generated nearly $17.5 million in funding for a wide spectrum of charitable organizations – every cent staying within the community where it was raised.

Last year 47 charities hosted viewing parties for more than 16,300 guests nationwide, raising nearly $2.5 million.

To set these parties apart from the thousands of other events taking place on Oscar Night, each ONA party receives copies of the commemorative “Quotable Oscar” poster, official Academy Awards ceremony programs for guests, and other support materials.

A complete list of contact, venue and ticket information for each local ONA party can be found at www.oscar.com.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST), beginning with a half-hour arrivals segment, “The Road to the Oscars.”
