Fat Tuesday Arrives Early at MAGIC to Bring Fashion Home to New Orleans

New Orleans’ Fat Tuesday arrived a week early at the Bellagio in Las Vegas with New Orleans “first family” The Neville Brothers in a benefit for the New Orleans area Habitat for Humanity and the opening night party for MAGIC, the largest and most widely recognized trade show in the international apparel industry.
Recognizing that New Orleans, still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, is still in much need of assistance and has not been forgotten by the fashion industry, MAGIC co-sponsored the benefit with Joseph Abboud, known for its sophisticated American style traditional menswear.
Upon entering the Fat Tuesday benefit, guest were entertained by New Orleans style musicians and harlequins in flamboyant clothes. Generous options of colorful beads and feathered masks were available for guests. Some guests brought their own beads, boas and masks from previous visits New Orleans and Fat Tuesday celebrations.
A silent auction hosted by MAGIC and Joseph Abboud was held during the Fat Tuesday celebration. Auction items included Joseph Abboud fashions, sports autographed memorabilia, signed musical memorabilia including The Neville Brothers, clothing and accessories.
Eat, drink and be merry New Orleans style. Multiple stations for drinks and food kept the drink lines short, but exceptional endless food kept lines of guests returning for seconds and thirds and who knows how many trips of Louisiana Duck and Seafood Gumbo, Southern Buttermilk Fried Chicken Salad and Cajun Spiced Crawfish with Marscapone Herb Macaroni, Cajun spiced rubbed steamship of beef and herb rubbed turkey carved by chefs, fried green tomatoes and sweet potato gratin and homemade biscuits. The French Quarter deserts added to spreading waistlines with “Café du Monde” style beignets, traditional king cakes, praline squares, and white chocolate bread pudding.
While guests were eating, drinking and being merry, the opening act played dualing pianos and sang classics centered in the ballroom
New Orleans’ “first family” The Neville Brothers played to a standing ballroom of guests swinging and swaying to the New Orleans beat. The Neville Brothers charmed their audience who threw beads upon the stage to show their appreciation. Fortunate for those hungry for sounds of the Big Easy, The Neville Brothers are releasing Walkin’ in the Shadow of Life.
MAGIC in a themed benefit with Joseph Abboud, are bringing the influence of fashion home to New Orleans.
