Lost Star Celebrates Yu-Gi-Oh! Anniversary With Competitive Duel at San Diego's 2006 Comic-Con International

Malcolm David Kelley, Who Portrays 'Walt' on the Hit ABC Show, Will Take on Reigning National Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Champion Austin Kulman at Comic-Con on July 22

4Kids Entertainment, Konami and Upper Deck Entertainment Celebrate Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Success as the Number One Trading Card Game in the World With Nomination into the Guinness Book of World Records

The Yu-Gi-Oh TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) -- the world's number one trading card game -- celebrates its 5th year anniversary at the 2006 Comic-Con International with a competitive "Duel" between Lost star Malcolm David Kelley ("Walt") and reigning National TCG champion, 11-year-old Austin Kulman of Bellvue, Wa. The action will take place in the main exhibit hall on Saturday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the Upper Deck booth (#2829) and will be followed by a meet-and-greet session with Yu-Gi-Oh! fans.

"I've been collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and have been playing the game for the past couple of years," Kelley said. "I would be really surprised if I were able to beat Austin during this match!"

Kelley has been a part of the ensemble cast of the Emmy Award-winning Lost series since its debut on ABC in 2004. Kelley portrays Walt, a 14-year-old boy who, upon being reunited with his father, embarks on the ill-fated flights that crashes in the South Pacific.

As the youngest Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Champion ever, Kulman defeated over 350 of the nation's best Yu-Gi-Oh! players at last month's National Championship event. As the National champion, Kulman will represent the United States in the Yu-GI-Oh! TCG World Championship Tournament this summer in Tokyo, competing against 25 countries for the coveted title, "King of Games."

Since its introduction in the U.S. by 4Kids Entertainment in 2001, the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG has become a worldwide phenomenon with 15.8 billion cards sold, which not only surpasses all other trading card games, but has qualified the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG for a nomination into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Yu Gi Oh! TCG is a game of strategy, where players create individual decks of cards collected from starter sets and booster packs. Two players engage in a Dual while using cards that represent powerful monsters, magical spells and surprising traps.

The Yu Gi Oh! TCG is a product of the Konami Corporation and is distributed worldwide (with the exception of Asia) by the Upper Deck Company.

In addition to the trading card game, Yu-Gi-Oh! has seen tremendous success as a videogame from Konami and toys from Mattel. The original Yu-Gi-Oh! television series will air this fall on 4Kids TV and new episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX will debut on Cartoon Network next month. The show was number one on Cartoon Network's Miguzi block last season.

Autodesk Technology Puts the Sizzle in This Summer's Blockbusters: Lady in the Water, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, X-Men: The Last Stand, and More

From computer- generated sea creatures to entire virtual cities, digital artists relied on Autodesk, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:ADSK) media and entertainment solutions to realize stunning visual effects for this summer's hottest films. The industry's leading post-production facilities delivered blockbuster action, adventure and dramatic content created with Autodesk's advanced visual effects, animation, editing and digital color grading solutions.

"Once again, our clients have produced awe-inspiring, visual movie experiences using Autodesk software," said Marc Petit, vice president of Autodesk, Media & Entertainment Solutions. "This summer's blockbusters offer the ultimate escape from reality. We are proud that our tools enable artists to take movie viewers into such rich and dynamic environments as Captain Jack Sparrows' exotic Caribbean seas."

Autodesk's Discreet Inferno system was used by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) as part of its proprietary SABRE visual effects system to create supernatural scenes for Lady In the Water. In one sequence, a giant eagle- like bird swoops in and rescues the film's heroine. The rescue is shown through a reflection in the water. Digital artists at ILM used Inferno to create the distorted look of the reflection and to add lightning and rain to the scene. The system was also used to add shadows, mist and rain to a scene where branch monsters drag away a scrunt -- a dog-like grass monster; and to create the mystical ball of mud that Cleveland Heep, the film's hero, needs to retrieve from the heroine's lair in order to save her.

ILM also helped bring to life the misguided escapades of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. One of the scenes shaped by ILM shows Will Turner and the crew of the Black Pearl captured by cannibals and held in a round cage made of bones hanging over a ravine. Inferno was used to composite together shots of the actors filmed against a blue screen, a water plate, and a digital matte cliff, as well as to add birds, mist and foot bridges to the scene. The system was also used to texture, light and animate Ragetti's wooden eye. Autodesk Maya 3D animation software was used by artists at ILM to rig Davy Jones and the Kraken sea creature's tentacles.

Specializing in digital cosmetic enhancements, LOLA VFX also used Autodesk's Discreet Inferno system as a fountain of youth for the opening sequence of X-Men: The Last Stand. Digital artists relied on reference footage, consultations from plastic surgeons and special techniques developed with Inferno to make Professor Xavier and Magneto look up to 20 years younger. While digital cosmetic fixes such as wrinkle reduction, eye enhancements and dental corrections are becoming more common in film, this is the first time that such a drastic age-reduction effect has been undertaken. LOLA VFX's sister studio Hydraulx also worked on the film, completing 235 shots with Inferno, Flame, Burn, Maya, Autodesk Combustion desktop compositing software and Autodesk Backdraft media management and I/O software.

Furthermore, Framestore CFC completed approximately 110 shots for X-Men: The Last Stand using Maya software. "We used Autodesk Maya to assemble, rig and animate the Golden Gate Bridge," explained Craig Lyn, VFX supervisor on the film. "The sheer size of this 3D asset was a major issue that we overcame using Maya. The software fit into our existing animation and rendering pipeline seamlessly and allowed us to create custom tools that improved our workflow." The facility also used Maya to create a digital double of actor Ben Foster (who plays the part of Angel), as well as to give him computer- generated wings.

Other summer films created with Autodesk solutions include: -- Click: Sony Pictures Imageworks used Maya for animated characters, set creation and light placement -- The Da Vinci Code: Double Negative used Maya for approximately 80 computer-generated shots including Robert Langdon's eidetic memory -- Poseidon: ILM used Maya to model 181,579 renderable pieces that were then fit together to create the film's 1100-foot-long computer- generated luxury cruise liner. Hydraulx also worked on the film using Inferno, Flame, Combustion, Burn, Maya and Backdraft -- Mission: Impossible III: ILM used Maya and Inferno as part of its proprietary SABRE visual effects system to create a computer-generated city of Shanghai as well as a variety of realistic action scenes for the film -- Krrish: EFX, a division of Prasad Labs, used Maya, Combustion, 3ds Max, Flame, the Discreet Smoke editing and finishing system and the Discreet Lustre digital color grading system to create this Bollywood superhero film

Outrageous Animated Hilarity on DVD for the First Time Ever From Television's Most Enduring Comic Franchise 'Saturday Night Live: The Best of Saturday TV Funhouse'

Arrives on DVD With All Sketches Featured in Their Original, Un-Cut Versions Never Before Seen on TV on October 24, 2006 From Universal Studios Home Entertainment

No one is safe from the hilarious, razor sharp animated satire of "Saturday Night Live: The Best of Saturday TV Funhouse," coming to DVD on October 24, 2006 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Produced by Broadway Video, the latest in the phenomenally successful "Saturday Night Live: Best Of" DVD lineup features highlights from a series of uproariously irreverent adult cartoons that skewer everything from politics and current events to superheroes. The brainchild of "Saturday Night Live's" Emmy(R) Award winning writer Robert Smigel, these animated segments introduced some of the show's most memorable sketches and characters. Classic sketches including the cult-favorite "Ambiguously Gay Duo" starring Stephen Colbert ("The Colbert Report") and Steve Carell ("The 40 Year-Old Virgin"), "The X-Presidents," "Michael Jackson," "Saddam and Osama" and "Fun with Real Audio." A must-own for every "SNL" fan, "Saturday Night Live: The Best of Saturday TV Funhouse" includes the critically-acclaimed NBC special featuring live segments with hosts Ace and Gary and the entire "Saturday Night Live" cast, here with uncut versions of the greatest animated segments of the series.

Outrageously funny bonus features include over an hour of additional cartoons, some of which have never before aired on TV, and commentaries from Smigel, Colbert, Carell, the animators, David Wachtenheim, Robert Marianetti, and JJ Sedelmaier, and many celebrities who've been parodied on "TV Funhouse" including Mr. T, Al Franken, Bryant Gumbel, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and more. Even James Carville comments on the infamous "Fun with Real Audio: Clinton's Apology" cartoon. The DVD is priced at $19.98 SRP. Pre-order close is September 19, 2006.

Written, directed and produced by Smigel, "Saturday Night Live: The Best of Saturday TV Funhouse" bursts with the trademark comic energy and originality familiar to fans of his most infamous creation, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Whether re-imagining America's former presidents as cliche-spewing superheroes or supplementing the actual words of politicians and celebrities with outrageous visuals, the irrepressible Smigel creates uniquely twisted, sidesplitting animated segments that leave viewers gasping in shock and awe.

Since its debut in 1975, "Saturday Night Live" has been the gold standard for edgy, irreverent comedy on television, showcasing some of the brightest comedic lights in the past 30 years. Created by Emmy(R) winner Lorne Michaels, who also serves as executive producer and writer, the program, produced by Broadway Video has won 18 Emmy(R) Awards and been nominated for more than 80, as well as winning the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award. With eight million viewers tuning in each week, the late-night comedy showcase has become a show business institution, and the most enduring and celebrated comedy franchise in television history.

Razor Sharp Bonus Material * Over one-hour of extra cartoons presented in their original, "uncut" versions. * Audio commentary with Robert Smigel, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Mr. T, James Carville, Bryant Gumbel, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and others. * Original Art and Storyboards. Synopsis

"Saturday Night Live: The Best of Saturday TV Funhouse" showcases some of the legendary show's boldest, most subversive humor. Created by Emmy(R) Award-winning "SNL" writer Robert Smigel (the celebrated comic behind the original "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), "Saturday Night Live: The Best of TV Funhouse" bristles with the outrageous, original comedy and social satire that have made "Saturday Night Live" America's favorite late night television show for more than 30 years. Smigel pokes not-so-gentle fun at sacred cows, with classic cartoon satires including "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" (featuring the voices of Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert), "The New Adventures Of Mr. T," "Michael Jackson," "Saddam and Osama," "Fun with Real Audio" and "The X Presidents." Winner of 18 Emmy(R) Awards, "Saturday Night Live" is the longest-running comedy series in television history and has launched generations of comedy stars.

The Man of Steel and Other Super Heroes Take Flight as Stamps and Stamped Postal Cards

Superman joined Batman, Wonder Woman and seven other comic book legends in extending their immortality to postage today when the U.S. Postal Service dedicated the "DC Comics Super Heroes" commemorative stamps and stamped postal cards. The ceremony took place at the world's largest comic book and pop culture show -- Comic-Con International 2006 http://www.comic-con.org/.

The stamps and stamped postal cards are available in San Diego today and nationwide July 21.

"We are here to celebrate a moment in time that most of us have shared," said William Campbell, U.S. Postal Service Judicial Officer, in dedicating the stamps. "I am talking about that age when the heroes of comic books were our personal friends. When their battles were our battles. When their victories made us cheer and their defeats made us sad. When their values helped strengthen our own understanding of right and wrong. Today, our heroes are back in all their glory and in some of their finest moments."

Joining Campbell in dedicating the stamps was DC Comics Publisher and President Paul Levitz, http://www.dccomics.com/.

"The DC Comics Super Heroes have been a beloved part of America's culture for almost seven decades as the most significant characters to emerge from comic books -- a true American art form," said Levitz. "It is both fitting and exciting for these heroes to be commemorated as stamps by the U.S. Postal Service."

This is the first stamp pane honoring comic book Super Heroes to be issued by the Postal Service. Half of the pane of 20 stamps are portraits of the characters: Aquaman, Batman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Plastic Man, Supergirl, Superman and Wonder Woman.

The other 10 stamps depict covers of individual comic books devoted to these Super Heroes' exploits. They include: Plastic Man #4, Summer 1946; The Brave And The Bold #36, June/July 1961; Green Lantern #4, Jan./Feb. 1961; The Flash #111, Feb./Mar. 1960; Wonder Woman #22 (2nd series); Aquaman #5 (of 5), Oct. 1989; The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1, Nov. 1982; Superman #11, July/Aug. 1941; and Green Arrow #15, Sept. 2002 (see attached).

Ever since Superman was introduced to readers in 1938, Super Heroes have been nearly synonymous with comic books. Their fantastic adventures provide an escape from the everyday, stimulating the imaginations of young -- and often, not so young -- readers, encouraging them to believe that within each of us are fantastic abilities, ready to help us combat the Lex Luthors and Riddlers of the world. All we need is a phone booth or Batcave to transform ourselves into a Caped Crusader.

Comic books aren't simply "kid's stuff." Adults have always been among their fans, and the form has attracted its share of serious artists and writers. Super Heroes have responded to social and political issues from the start, fighting injustice and corruption during the Depression, and then becoming patriotic defenders of national interests during World War II. Art director Carl T. Herrman worked with the creative staff at DC Comics on the design of this issuance.

Visitors attending Comic-Con International 2006 can obtain a special Comic-Con postmark available each day of the show -- Thurs., July 20, through Sun., July 23, as well as the first-day-of-issue postmark -- when visiting the U.S. Postal Service booth located in the Convention Center at Lobby A, first level at the northwest end.

Ever since his debut in the pages of Action Comics #1 (June 1938), the Superman character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster has been an icon. The big red "S" on his shirt is among the most recognized symbols in American pop culture.

Green Lantern Art by Neal Adams.

In 1970, writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neal Adams launched a new era of relevance in comics, crafting stories in which the Green Lantern -- accompanied by his friend, Green Arrow -- addressed important issues then considered taboo for the typical "comic book."

The Flash Art by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson.

An explosive mixture of lightning and laboratory chemicals endowed police scientist Barry Allen with superhuman speed, transforming him into the "Silver Age" Flash, the fastest man alive. The Scarlet Speedster was first set into motion in Showcase #4 (September/October 1956).

  Aquaman Art by Jim Aparo.

The memories of Aquaman's personal tragedies run deep after he loses his son, his wife, and his monarchy. Nevertheless, the former King of the Seven Seas remains determined to protect both the Atlanteans and surface dwellers from those who endanger them.

  Hawkman Art by Murphy Anderson.

Powered by the mysterious "Nth metal" in his artificial wings, Hawkman soars through the sky above Midway City. When grounding the city's worst predators, the Winged Wonder relies on his mastery of Earth's ancient weapons, among them his mace and shield.

Supergirl Art by Curt Swan and Stan Kaye.

An impressionable teenager when she first arrived on Earth, Supergirl operated as her cousin Superman's "secret weapon" while adjusting to life on her new planet. Eventually, her existence was revealed to the world, which welcomed the Girl of Steel with open arms.

Green Arrow Art by Jack Kirby and Mike Royer.

Green Arrow made his debut in More Fun Comics #73 (November 1941). Since then, the Emerald Archer's most notable escapades were in stories drawn by legendary comics creator Jack Kirby in Adventure Comics #250-256 and World's Finest Comics #96-99 (spanning 1958-1959).

DC Comic Book Covers Plastic Man #4, Summer 1946 Art by Jack Cole.

Cartoonist Jack Cole flexed his creative muscles with the always pliable, ever-reliable Plastic Man, who debuted in August 1941. Cole enjoyed a 15-year stretch experimenting with fun, unique story twists and graphics for his expandable protagonist and stout sidekick, Woozy Winks.

Batman #1, Spring 1940 Art by Bob Kane.

Batman made his debut in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939 before swinging into action -- with Robin, the Boy Wonder, by his side -- in his own series in the spring of 1940. The Dark Knight's distinguishing characteristics were intellect, skill, and grim determination.

The Brave And The Bold #36, June/July 1961 Art by Joe Kubert.

Hawkman returned in 1960, a reincarnated hero from the earlier "Golden Age" of comics. The new Winged Wonder and his spouse Hawkgirl were intergalactic police officers from a distant planet, meting out justice to the villains terrorizing Midway City.

Green Lantern #4, Jan./Feb. 1961 Art by Gil Kane and Joe Giella.

As readers entered the Space Age, so did comics. Ace test pilot Hal Jordan took flight as Green Lantern, a galactic peace officer with an emerald power ring that could create virtually anything. Willpower and fearlessness marked Jordan as a hero for the times.

The Flash #111, Feb./Mar. 1960 Art by Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella.

The Flash is capable of moving at speeds so great he can make himself invisible or travel through time and between dimensions. His fast-paced adventures highlight pseudo-science while pitting the hero against an extensive rogues' gallery of villains.

Wonder Woman #22 (2nd series), Nov. 1988 Art by George Perez.

As a worldwide ambassador of peace, Wonder Woman soared to new heights in the late 1980s. The character returned to her roots as an Amazon warrior from Paradise Island, land of heroic women. Her special powers were gifts from the Olympians.

Aquaman #5 (of 5), Oct. 1989 Art by Curt Swan and Al Vey.

Aquaman defends both land and sea with great strength, speed, and the ability to communicate telepathically with all marine life. His ultimate goal is to help both realms put aside their natural prejudices and unite in peaceful coexistence.

The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1, Nov. 1982 Art by Rich Buckler and Dick Giordano.

Moments before the destruction of Argo City, Kara Zor-El was rocketed to Earth and reunited with her cousin Kal-El, the hero known throughout the galaxy as Superman. Developing incredible powers and abilities, Kara chose to follow her cousin's example and fight for good.

Superman #11, July/Aug. 1941 Art by Fred Ray.

Destiny brought the infant Kal-El from Planet Krypton to Smallville, USA, where he was raised by kindly farmers. Though gifted with extraordinary powers, Kal-El -- now Clark Kent -- expresses true strength in the compassion and moral responsibility he displays in the guise of Superman.

Green Arrow #15, Sept. 2002 Art by Matt Wagner.

Trapped on a deserted island, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen learned to hunt with a bow and arrow. He escaped and became Green Arrow, a modern-day Robin Hood who uses his unparalleled skill as an archer on behalf of the underprivileged.

Cast members Vincent Pastore, William DeMeo, and Tony Darrow along with writer/director Paul Borghese will be present to provide the inside scoop about the feature film "Unmade Man." American Black Film Festival Presents Vanessa Williams Starring in Liberty Artists, 'My Brother' and Sets New Industry Trend With Films Focused on African American Audiences

Liberty Artists, a New York-based film company has decided to take a different route and provide substantive, meaningful family oriented films using African American and other minority experiences as its central subject matter. Their first feature film, MY BROTHER, starring Vanessa L. Williams (UPN's South Beach and Ugly Betty), Nashawn Kearse (ABC's Desperate Housewives), and Tatum O'Neal (Dancing With The Stars), written and directed by the renowned award-winning Director Anthony Lover, will be released September 2006. The American Black Film Festival will premier, MY BROTHER, Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 2:00pm at The Regal Cinemas in Miami, Florida.

My Brother is a unique, compelling story about two underprivileged brothers from Brooklyn, New York, their quest to develop as young men, and retain their commitment to one another. One brother, James (played old and young by Christopher Scott and Donovan Jennings), is developmentally disabled, but functional. Their mother L'Tisha (Vanessa L. Williams) helps forge a bond between the brothers that neither time nor distance can break. Her efforts are proven as we watch the boys overcome impossible odds on their way to adulthood, illustrating the tag line, "Two Brothers, One Soul." Christopher Scott will receive the "Courage Award - They said it could not be done" honor from L.Marilyn Crawford, President and CEO, Primetime and Founder of Pre-Oscar Week Tinseltown to Gotham.

Writer-Director Anthony Lover states, "For a long time I have watched the industry spiral down, promoting misogynist lyrics, negativism, sex and violence only. I knew there existed an audience who could appreciate a film that emphasized and celebrated the positive influences in the minority and urban culture communities." Fortunately, the company's backers felt the same way. Liberty Artists has pledged to produce two films per year over the next three years and has stepped to the table with the right formula for growth, impact and inspiration.

"The bottom line is, once this is a proven business investment, everyone will jump on the wagon creating masterpieces that reflect the magnitude of the African American experience. We have set the ball in motion for a positive change in movie trends, which hopefully will spill over into music and other avenues," says Greg Segal, Vice President of Liberty Studios.

Liberty Artists is a film company on the verge of releasing a new and needed concept to the film industry: Heart-felt, family oriented films that use the African American experience as its subject matter. The film company is also focused internally on creating screenplays as well as commissioning and supervising additional screenwriters and directors to develop stories that are strategically tailor-made to appeal to the African American market and to larger cross over markets beyond. Also to its credit, Liberty Artists' lower budgeted productions will have the look and sound of well-made Hollywood films.

International Documentary Association Announces Jury Selections for DocuWeek(TM)

Showcase Helps Qualify Docs for Oscar(R) Consideration

The International Documentary Association (IDA) is featuring 16 documentaries in its 10th Annual Theatrical Documentary Showcase, DocuWeek(TM). A dozen feature length documentaries and four short nonfiction films will be shown on two screens at the ArcLight(R) Hollywood from August 18-24 before traveling to other venues across the country.

NO starring Sean Connery, who went on to play James Bond in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, GOLDFINGER, THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. George Lazenby had one outing as 007, in ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, before Roger Moore took over the role in LIVE AND LET DIE, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, MOONRAKER, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, OCTOPUSSY and A VIEW TO A KILL.
