Godfather of Fashion: Christian Audigier
Ed Hardy’s Christian Audigier Casts TV’s Newest Reality Show the Godfather of Fashion
Christian Audigier, the creative force and mastermind behind Ed Hardy and the Christian Audigier celebrity fashion line embarks on the reality show route in the Godfather of Fashion. An open casting call was held at the Ed Hardy corporate office on October 10th in Los Angeles .
“The Apprentice meets Project Runway” was the description Nicole Irving, Marketing Manager of Ed Hardy shared me when I asked her to describe the Godfather of Fashion. Six assistants, 3 male and 3 female, are competing to work directly for Audigier as his design assistant for his newest fashion design line, Christian Audigier.
Prior to a taped interview and audition with Audigier himself, potential apprentices pass a hallway lined wall of magazine covers, autographed pictures of the many celebrity fans of Ed Hardy along with articles about Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier. Madonna, David Beckham, Chingy, Missy Elliott, and the list continues on and on.
Waiting for the open casting call were a multicultural diverse group of hopeful assistants, most of which had waited for hours. When I spoke with Irving , at nearly 2:30 pm, she estimated that they had already seen a few hundred (people), and this was after the scheduled noon start.
Tatianna Silva arrived in a Roberto Cavalli design with her design book in hand and had been waiting 2-1\2 hours when we spoke with her. She shared, “I want to be selected for the first reason, I like acting. Second reason, I wanted to be involved in fashion.” She admitted they were both passions.
Primo Velasquez had been waiting with his friend Santee and hand been interviewing people that had already been interviewed by Audigier. “(they) went through the gauntlet of questions they asked them, but it’s on an individual basis. What would you do to get in the industry? What won’t you do? Do you have rules? Are you prepared to tell jokes, laugh, dance, to be next to the people that are hot?”
Irving shared her perspective of the open casting call the next day, “We had a pretty good turnout. A lot of people came in. A lot of eager talent. We had people that were in this office almost in tears, begging for the job. All different walks of life. We definitely had a large crowd of different types of people that were here. Everyone from people that wanted to be reality stars to people that are really designers that had design books and design sheets that they showed Christian (Audigier).”
After interviewing potential candidates for 8 hours, Audigier will have the difficult task of narrowing it down to 3 men and 3 women as potential apprentices. Welcome to reality with the Godfather of Fashion. Was that Usher I just saw?
