Majority of the Press Signed On To Greeting

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Solstice, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year!
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday(tm), practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all . . . and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America(or your country, province, territory, protectorate or would-be future nation) great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "AMERICA" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual orientation of the wishee.

Whether you accept his greeting or not, is irrelevant, as acceptance or non-acceptance has no bearing whatsoever on anything stated or implied in anything that is so stated or unstated regarding any of the information stated to you here within.

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Once every 50 years, Hanukkah finishes and starts on Christmas.  This happened on Christmas this year.
Typically, the first day of Hanukkah, begins at sunset of the day immediately before the one given, according to the Gregorian Calendar, which is used internationally and considered the modern calendar.  The actual dates of Hanukkah are determined however by the traditional or Hebrew Calendar.  Due to the differences in these calendars, the holiday for Jewish year 5766 is listed on Gregorian calendars for 2005-2006 as December 26th to January 2nd.
Hanukkah, commemorates the Miracle of the Oil.  It is represented by a Menorah with 9 candles, eight to represent the oil which burned for 8 days, which was the amount of time it took to create new oil.  The miracle aspect was that there was only enough consecreated olive oil to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple in Jerusalem for one day.  Today the Menorah has come to represent the miraculous survival of the Jewish people through trials and tribulations.

Besides the obvious differences between Hanukkah and Christmas, in speaking with those who grew up celebrating both, the main difference is that for Hanukkah you receive 8 days of presents of things you need and Christmas you get (hopefully) what you want.  As for me, both are reasons to celebrate … does that mean I get more treats?

Christmas Trees and Traditions

While enjoying Christmas, I look at the tree and wonder it's origination and when the tradition started.  From first celebrating the winter solstice, an evergreen has celebrated life.  Beginning in earlier years, it expanded and was popularized in Germany with the music of "O Christmas Tree".  Prince Albert brought it to England and in his union with Queen Victoria, the decoration of Christmas trees became popularized in Europe, and then spread throughout the world.
Today, the Christmas tree represents tradition.  The tradition of family and celebration.  Upon further contemplation, much of life is truly about tradition.  It is why we do what we do.  It is why we gather.  It is why we proceed in a specific manner.  It has become so ingrained within our actions that tradition is habit. A habit?
Test it yourself.  Create a new tradition, continue it for 5 days, stop, and feel the change.  Then you know you've created a new tradition.

The Magic of Christmas

Unexplainable.  When it happens around Christmas we call it the magic of Christmas.  When it happens at other times of the year, we call it a miracle.  Magicians create magic, but typically they’re illusions.  So, are these then illusions?

Whatever you want to call it, belief plays into it.  Or does it?  Or do only some see who are supposed to see?  How does that differ from leprechauns, fairies, the Lochness Monster, Sasquatch, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Great Pumpkin?

Is that like people of different religions having their God, Allah, Buddah ….. aren’t we all just referring to a universal force that we’re all calling something different, then organized by people into what is called a religion?

Did you ever think that this magic occurs every single day?  Yet, we are all so busy in our lives that we rarely notice or stop and smell the roses.

Whatever your belief, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa …. What you make of it, like life, it is up to you.

(As for me, I believe in leprechauns.  They sure give me a sore back sometimes.)

Christmas Trees Favored Over Relatives for a Good Christmas

Some Germans would rather spend Christmas with a tree than with their families, a new poll shows.

The survey in Thursday's Focus weekly news magazine found 75 percent of Germans could not contemplate Christmas without their beloved "Tannenbaum," the traditional tree many cover lavishly with candles, lights and decorations.

But only 65 percent said spending time with relatives was also essential for a good Christmas.

Singing carols was the next most vital ingredient, with 57 percent saying they could not do without them, while 42 percent said Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without presents.

The modern tradition of the Christmas tree originated in Germany.

Three percent of the 1,014 people polled about attitudes to Christmas wanted to skip the whole thing.

ASPCA’s Holiday for Pets

The Holiday spirit often captures each of us hoping for happiness, peace and the perfect gift.  If you’re searching for:

-          A new pet as a present,  planning makes all the difference.

-          If you have a pet, and you’re not quite certain what seasonal elements are toxic or not – such as mistletoe

-          The perfect card, from dog to dog or dog lover to dog lover

These answers can all be found at the ASPCA website, http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=adopt_petsaspresents and http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=media_newsalert#1

White House Holiday Celebration – Barney Cam’s “A Very Beazley Christmas”

This is a view I can relate to.  It’s at my level – via the Barney Cam.  You’re able to experience the grandeur of the White House with special appearances and greetings by none other than Barney’s parents – President and Mrs. Bush.  There’s a sense of holiday spirit and sibling rivalry.

If you’d like to explore from a different perspective, review the press releases and videos – including Lighting the White House Christmas Tree and the Menorah Lighting Ceremony.  For more information on their celebration, use the following link at http://www.whitehouse.gov/holiday/2005.

Long Beach - Beverly Hills Kennel Club – An Undefeated Season

I’m undefeated in my class for the first season.  I don’t know if this is a record, but from what I’ve heard at the dog show – it’s extremely unusual. In the 4 days of shows, there were 9000 entries, there are only a certain amount of first place ribbons given out on each given day.  To win a First Place Ribbon each day for four consecutive show days is a treat for any dog.

Some of the dog show exhibitors remarked they would be happy to even win a ribbon.  In fact one junior handler remarked that she might get a ribbon if she showed her bare “behind”.  Her mom was shocked when she’d heard her.

To top today off, two of my local neighborhood fans, Eva and Dylan, presented me with a Christmas present – home-baked peppermint chocolate chip cookies(I shared with my mom) and a basketball tug-of-war.  I surprised them jingling down the street with my reindeer ears.  This is my first Christmas.  I don’t understand what all those people are complaining about, but as for me – bring it on!  I’m all for Christmas!

Monte Bubbles is Coming To Town

You puppies better watch out,
You better not bark,
Better not yap,
I'm telling you why:
Monte Bubbles is coming' to town.

She's making her list
And she’s checking it twice,
She’s gonna find out
Who's naughty and nice.
Monte Bubbles is coming to town.

She sees you when you're napping',
She knows when you're playing,
She knows if you've been a stinker or nice,
So be good for goodness sake.

You puppies better watch out,
You better not bark,
Better not yap,
I'm telling you why:
Monte Bubbles is coming to town.
